Pipemaster 515 Orbital Pipe Welding

Magnatech’s Pipemaster Model 515 Power Source is used for multi-pass orbital pipe welding, for any size pipe from 1 inch to 14 inches with a change of only one component. It can operate weld heads with controls for torch rotation, wire feed, torch oscillation and arc voltage control. This includes Magnatech’s D Model head for applications with minimal radial clearance around the weld, as well as the family of Quickclamp heads, designed for fabrication shop environments.

Orbital Pipe Welding Programming

Primary concerns about automation in the welding industry are the need to program the equipment for each pipe size and material and the time needed for welders to learn to program a CNC tool. Magnatech’s new and unique auto programming mode allows operation without lengthy programming training. An inexperienced user can enter the pipe’s OD, wall thickness, and material as well as the guide ring factor (GRF) to program the machine. The GRF is the number engraved on the guide ring that tells the weld head the traveling RPM depending on the pipe OD.

The system generates weld programs using formulas derived from years of welding programming experience. Should the welder want to slightly modify the weld, two modes — Edit and Scaling — can be used. The Edit mode allows changes at any point in the weld cycle. The Scaling mode allows a percentage change for the entire program. The power source stores up to 100 programs and creates printouts for record-keeping.
